People love and adore animals because our pets become more than just companions, they become part of the family. Pets offer comfort, companionship and a sense of routine whether that be walking your dog, them waiting for you at the door after a long day, or your cat following you room to room no matter where you go. For a lot of people animals help reduce loneliness and bring people together through shared experiences, such as walks or simple conversations with other owners daily. 

Throughout Birmingham, the love for animals is clearly reflected in the wider community. There are many organisations such as Birmingham's Dog Home which have supported local people and animals for generations that have cared for more than 2000 dogs each year whilst also providing support for pet owners. There are also a range of local groups around Birmingham where owners are given the opportunity to get together and socialise their animals such as Birminghams Little Paws Walking Club. This clearly shows how pets are able to create connections between people as well as strengthening the bond between humans and animals.
