The long lasting debate between cat people and dog people is simply about which animal you prefer, it can feel like part of your identity due to the idea that certain people with specific mannerisms fit into either category. Dog owners often adore the energy, loyalty and social aspect of owning a dog, such as the friends you make through dog walks which creates a sense of community as well as a strong relationship and bond between owners and their pets. Dogs bring people together during everyday life and often become a central part of their families. 

Cat owners often appreciate a different type of relationship. Whilst dogs love everyone and bring people together, a cats love is special as they often choose one specific person to gravitate towards due to their independent nature. Cat owners appreciate the fact that cats choose you. The appeal is the quieter companionship and the unique bond that a cat brings to a home. Whether someone identifies as a dog person or a cat person can indicate the type of person someone is whether they are more outgoing or someone who likes to remain to themselves. However, both reflect the strong emotional connection that people have with their pets and how they bring communities together in different ways.
